Description:
Hiroshige is believed to be the first ukiyo-e artist to depict visible rain. This device became popular among Western painters such as Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) during the Japonism craze of the late nineteenth- to early twentieth-centuries. Van Gogh was so impressed with this print that he painted his own oil version of it. (from Nostalgic Japan exhibition 6/8/2005-)
