Description:
The small island of Enoshima lies in Sagami Bay near Kamakura and is dedicated to Benzaiten, the goddess of wealth and music. Caves housed shrines to the goddess and were popular destinations of countless pilgrimages. An earlier triptych by Hiroshige, shown on the right, depicts throngs of pilgrims arriving to the island.
