Nakamura Utaemon IV as the painter Ukiyo Matabei, popularly regarded as the founder of the Ukiyo-e school, holding an eel while Onoe Kikujiro as his wife O-Toku watches in the production of Keisei hangonku at the Nakamura theater in the eighth month of Kaei 1 (1848) (depicted as a page in a book).
