This word, which is the Japanese name for the morning glory, is the title ofthe 20th book of the classical romance, the "Genji Monogatari." It is also the name of one of the principal characters in that book, the Princess Asagao, who by the Emperpor's command had been serving as the vestal virgin a the Kamo Shinto shrine.
