Description:
Daikoku, the God of Wealth, is depicted seated in the reception room (zashiki) of a brothel, with his back to a formal alcove (tokonoma). A painting depicting a large radish (daikon) with a split end and a vase with irises are displayed in the tokonoma. Daikoku is depicted shaking his mallet (tsuchi) releasing from it a stream of oval gold coins (koban) which a young man with a crest of the character for sword (katana) on his kimono is catching with both hands. The event is observed by a courtesan dressed in a kimono decorated with cherry blossoms and a samurai saddle and stirrups, reclining on the floor.
