Description:
Saturday, 13 August 2005 An original unframed Japanese colour woodcut by Koitsu. This depicts a small bird (I think it's a warbler) on a branch with blossom. I have dated it to post 1940 to be safe, but it may well be slightly earlier. Condition is problematic. The print has been laid down onto a backing card with double sided tape in the margins. There also seems to be the residue of some previous tape intruding into the image about half an inch in the left, right and lower edges. (I think this should all be clear from my photos.) There is some creasing, the worst of which is near the artist's seal and in the top left area. The print itself does not appear to be laid down - colour is excellent Size is 15.5 x 7.5 inches to the sheet edges. A very nice unframed print which either needs some professional attention or an overmount to hide the problems at the edges.
