Saturday, 18 June 2005 Triptych: The Monkey Trainer Artist: Toyokuni I Format: Oban triptych: each sheet 14.75" x 10" approx Subject: A countryside Kabuki scene in the paddyfields with Nakamura Utaemon in the role of the Monkey Trainer Yojiro. He is flanked by Segawa Rokko I in a bijin role on the left and Sawamura Gennosuke I adjusting his headgear on he right. Complete early triptychs by Toyokuni I are now very rare. Publisher: Kawahiraya Date: early 1800's Condition: Full size. Japanese album backing paper. Wormage at edges. Minor stains marks and flaws. Generally moderately good state. Colour: Good with nominal fading Impression: Fine with gauffrage
