Description:

Three Courtesans and their Attendant, by Torii Kiyonaga (1752 - 1815) Many of the women depicted by Kiyonaga are tall and svelte. The beauty prints of Kiyonaga's mature period further emphasize the women's height in group setting outdoors. This print probably dates from just before this mature period. The woman walking in front is wearing a tsunokakushi headdress. These headdresses were originally called ageboshi, and they protected a woman's hairdo from the dust of the streets.
