Hakone, from the series "Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido", by Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858) Half-nude palanquin bearers bear their burden, using canes to help with the upward slope. The pampas grass blows in the brisk breeze in this scene of Hakone Pass. I wonder what the person in the palanquin is thinking?
