Pillar Print:: The Oiran, Hanaogi Artist: Eishi Format: Kakemono-e: 24.75" x 5" overall Subject: A supremely elegant, elongated portrayal of Edo's infamous courtesan Hanaogi of Matsubaya Green-house, dressed in the latest Spring fashions. This design was produced at the height of Eishi's genius. Hanaogi's kimono is decorated with Ho-ho birds among flowering Pawlonia plants, the black silk obi with pink feathers. An exquisite and extremely rare design. A trimmed example is illustrated in Pins, 'The Pillar Print' page 304, #852 Publisher: Murataya Jirobei Date: c. 1790 Condition: Good colors. Full size, untrimmed. Two repaired wormholes. Horizontal crease marks and other light creases. Signs of a previous matting at edges on verso. Slight soils and stains. Minor marks and flaws. Generally good state of preservation. Impression: Fine impression.
