Description:
The design for this print was borrowed by Toyoharu from a print by Torii Kiyomitsu, dating to the late 1750s. This interior view depicts the second floor of a house of entertainment, as can be seen from the roofs seen through the open shöji screens and the servant with a bonsai tree climbing up the stairway in the left foreground. The line-dancers are led by a man, and include courtesans, apprentice courtesans, and maids, each holding the waist of the person in front. (from Uki-e exhibition 2004: June-August)
