Description:
Shunkö depicts the strongest sumö wrestler of the time, Tanikaze, wearing a kimono as he promenades with two attendants. They wear swords, which suggests their status as warriors (samurai). It is known that some sumö wrestlers retained by samurai lords still fought in public tournaments. (from Oh Sumo! exhibition 5/7/07-)
