Description:
A mother is busy rinsing her just-woven cloth in the clear river water. The young boy beside her is trying to catch fish in his small net. The figures of mother and child, both immersed up to their ankles in the gurgling water, seem very content. The verse at the top of the print likens the washing of handmade cloth to the passage of the Tama river through the town of Chöfu. Harunobu uses poetry as well as the theme of mother and child to add a sweet quality of maternal love to this scene of summer-time enjoyment. (from Summer Evenings: Harunobu exhibition 5/30/06-)
