Colour woodblock print. Half-length portrait of the kabuki actor Ichikawa Sadanji I in the role of Aratota, in the play 'Michiyuki onimo jushichi' (道行醜振袖) performed at the Morita theatre, Tokyo from the 2nd day of the 5th month of 1870 (Meiji 3). One of a group of five kabuki actor portraits in a style imitating photographs.
