Colour woodblock print, oban triptych. The kabuki actors (from right) Seki Sanjuro II as the puppeteer ‘kairaishi’ Dekuroku Rokubei, Ichikawa Danjuro VIII as the footman ‘yakko’ Kibahei, Bando Hikosaburo IV as Yoritomo, Nakayama Tomisaburo II as the footman ‘yakko’ Tsuruhei, and Iwai Shijaku I as the princess Tatsuhime, in the Kiyomoto dance ‘Kobiki no hana iro kaomise’, (木挽花色顔見勢) (alternate reading ‘Koiji no hana kokoni kaomise’), in the play ‘Sakigake Genji kiba musha’ (魁源氏騎士) by Tsuuchi Jihei IV; performed at the Kawarasaki-za in the 11th month of 1828 (Bunsei 11). The Kiyomoto musicians appear onstage (‘degatari’) with the lead singer Kiyomoto Enjudayu holding his closed fan behind his lectern, (centre sheet, left).
