Description:

Woodblock triptych print, oban tate-e. Scene from the kabuki play 'Onoe Kikugoro ichidai-banashi Go-ju-san' showing the actors Onoe Kikugoro III as Tenjiku Kanja (Tokubei) standing on the shore, his hand on his sword (right), Ichimura Uzaemon as Nakano Tohei (centre) subduing an opponent on the shore, and Mimasu Gennosuke as Teranishi Kanshin (left) on a palanquin being carried by coolies across the Oigawa river.
