Woodblock triptych print, oban tate-e. Scene from the kabuki play 'Ichi-no-tani', showing the actors Ichikawa Danjuro VIII as Okabe Rokuyata, holding a black and red tray above his head (right), Seki Sanjuro as the retired Buddhist layman Rakujinsai (the historical Uhara no Tagobei), in a crouching pose (centre) with red face makeup, and Shinsha as the courtesan Kiku-no-mae, holding a knife, and Onoe Kikujiro as Fukaya, wife of Rokuyata, kneeling (left).
