Description:

"Hachi no Ki no Taii" Genzaemon (middle: played by Bando Hikosaburo) and his wife Hakumyo (Sawamura Tossho) cut up their precious bonsai tree for firewood to warm up a strange guest in a cold snowy night. The stranger was the regent Tokiyori Nyudo (played by Ichikawa Sadanji. Historically, the regent Hojo Tokiyori,1226-63) who disguised as a monk to see the lives of his people. This famous episode has been depicted in numerous plays and pictures.
