Double-page book translationLabel Text: Illustration from vol. I of Ehon Tokiwagusa (A Picture Book of Evergreens); signed sakusha gako (author and conceiver) Bunkado Nishikawa Sukenobu (1671-1751); carvers Fujimura Zen'emon and Murakami Gen'emon of Osaka; preface dated 1730 (Kyoho 15); issued by Morita Shotaro of Osaka in the 8th month 1731 (Kyoho 16). A daughter of Taira Kanemori, Akazome-emon was adopted by Akazome Tokimochi and, early in life, she was in attendance as a lady of honor to Fujiwara Rin-Ko, wife of the Kanpaku, the highest dignitary at the Imperial Court Fujiwara Michinaga (952-1027). Akazome-emon later became the wife of Oe Tadahira (952-1012). Both she and her husband are renowned for their poetical and literary talents. In 1027 she published the "Eiga Monogatari," a history of the Fujiwara supremacy. She is here depicted seated up
