Description:

Sandalwood Smoke Comments by Richard Miles: This is one of Jacoulet's most successful yoko-e or horizontal compositions. The sandalwood fumes rising from the incense burner are blind-printed, sharply, in the first impressions, but less noticeably thereafter, although the traditional gauffrage on the brilliantly composed gown is one of his best effects in combination with the pale grey and blue tile that seems as soft as a pillow. The grey smoke of the burning sandalwood undulates in gauffrage from the Ching dynasty incense burner. There is grey mica on the background and silver mica on hair ornaments and robe. Richard Miles, "The Prints of Paul Jacoulet," #102, pp.70, 112
