Description:
This is perhaps the most well-known illustration of the erotic classic Kaichu Nenchu Gyoshi (Record of Erotic Play Throughout the Year) by Utagawa Yoshitora published in 1846. In old Edo, firework displays were the highlight of the summer season. As in English, there are two types of fireworks: in the air, and in the sex act. The inscription says, "Let's make our own fireworks, and have an exciting climax too!" The fireman has a fantastic full body dragon tattoo; such a tattoo can be irresistible to many women. The lady here sports a simple tattoo of her own, on her arm peeking out from under her yukata. Illustrated on page 52 of our catalog, Shunga Paintings: The Beauty of Japanese Erotic Art
