Description:
This is a very rare and gorgeous 25-print limited edition set of Goyo's famous sketchbook beauties. This is the first complete set I have seen in all my days of collecting and researching Japanese art. Some of the sketches will be familiar, having been used as "genga" (base sketches) for his woodblock prints. Printed by Sanseido in April of 1976 (not Yuyudo as mentioned by some), the very fine printing process seems to be lithographic or a hybrid litho technique. Each sketch is printed on a fine museum-quality art paper. This is set number 32 from an edition size that is supposedly 500 (according to the accompanying literature), but due to its rarity I suspect only a much smaller number of sets were actually produced. Although I could break up this set and sell them individually for a much larger profit (I've seen individual scenes sell from $100 to up to $300), I have always had a policy of not breaking up woodblock print sets due to their rarity (and as research material the set is worth more together than separate). I will give this set a year to sell, and (as it is not a woodblock print set) if it remains unsold I'll consider selling the prints separately. To purchase this set please see the details here.
