Description:
Saturday, 30 August 2008 This is an original watercolour by the respected Japanese artist I. Yamanoi; one of a group of artists who flourished in the 1930’s in Japan and signed their names in western script. This is a genre of artists that has only recently been discovered in the West. There is no doubting the talent and artistry that Yamanoi has, as seen here in this watercolour which focuses on the large stretch of water ? the background is subtle and slightly hazy but the fisherman in the foreground is sharp, leading the eye to the boat in the distance. The division between sky, water and figures is carefully arranged. There is slight foxing to the left edge of the painting and slight aging to the upper and right edges. This painting is framed in wood and under glass, ready to hang. It measures 13 ?” x 10”.
