Description:
Monday, 31 July 2006 This lot consists of an original old watercolor of Mount Fuji, signed "S Tosuke" lower left. Depicts a small sailboat in a body of water surrounded by hills, Fuji barely appearing in the misty background. Done in a soft, mysterious light, in tones of blue, peach and grey, subtle and evocative. S TOSUKE is known for his watercolors done before WW II (circa 1890-1930.) Measures approx 13" x 19 1/2", on paper trimmed to edge, blank on the back. In good to fair condition, no rips, bends, creases. Does have light foxing overall, (mostly noticeable in light areas), handling, wear,aging, light crinkle lower left corner, puckering, paper is darkened. Back has penciled prices ("Y 14" and "cost y5"), has stains around puckered edge.
