Description:
Hello there, Just came across your website amongst others and found it most interesting. Last weekend my wife and I purchased the two watercolours (attached) at a local market fair. We were told they were of Mongolian people but my wife who is japanese said they were definitely portraits of an elderly couple from her home country. They are very competently painted and signed fully 'Terauchi' with 'Fukutaro' in Kanji form. I was wondering whether it was unusual to come across this subject as most of the painting featured on websites are of landscapes. I was also wondering whether it was rare for him to sign his paintings in this way with a mixture of 'western' form and kanji (chinese characters)? The other japanese artists you have listed is particularly useful as there is so little information about them available. The watercolours measure 47.5cms x 31.5cms. Best wishes,
