Description:

The Crow Artist: Koson Format: O-tanzakuban tate-e: 14.5" x 7.5" Subject: A Jungle Crow (Corvus macrorhynchos) sits on a snow-covered branch with three Crows in flight behind. In Japan, the Crow is considered an auspicious bird, and it was depicted by a number of artists including Shibata Zeshin (1807-1891) and Watanabe Seitei (1851-1918). Printed in shades of black and gray. For a full page color illustration see 'Crows, Cranes & Camellias', cat# 111 page 119, K5.10 page 171. Publisher: Daikokuya Date: c. 1910 Condition: Full size. A tiny corner damage top and bottom left. Very minor marks. Generally fine state of preservation. Impression: Fine impression with gauffrage, strong woodgrain visible in the background and the big Crow printed in lacquer.
