Description:
Offered for sale is an unusual Japanese print by sosaku hanga school master Jun'ichiro Sekino (1914-1988), titled Assent from "Yodaka no Hoshi", 2/50, 1963. This design is illustrated at plate no. 319 in Jun-ichiro Sekino: The Prints, 1994 (Sekino, Katsuko, ed.). Although Sekino is best known for his woodblock prints, he also worked in other print medium, including copper prints, collographs, lithographs and etchings. This design, as well as a companion piece we are simultaneously offering on Ebay, are both collograhps. A collograph is a print made from an image built up with glue and sometimes other materials. The inked image is transferred from plate to paper and is simultaneously embossed. The name derives from the word "collage." The print is in good condition with excellent color. The brown tape on face of print was placed there by the artist for drying purposes. There are two printer's smudges in right margin, tape residue on reverse, faint red discoloration in center of top margin, and some crinkling in the margins (that is not showing up in the scans). The image measures approximately 21 by 26 ? inches, plus margins.
