Description:
This pair of watercolour paintings are signed in the bottom left hand corner - Satsuta. As you can see one of the scenes depicts, I believe, Mount Fuji and the other is a continuation of a river scene. I'm not sure exactly how old they are, but looking at the paper, I would date them to around 1900. Pre War Japanese Art is becoming increasingly collectable, and harder to find. I think you can see from the images, that they have suffered a little over the years. Probably, because they don't appear to have ever been framed. They both have a tear to the top right, which I think you can make out. This would lay flat. If the paintings were framed this fault would hardly be noticeable. There are a couple of foxing marks, and a water stain to the Mount Fuji painting. Each of the watercolours measures 20 x 15 inches.
