Description:
Sunday, 21 January 2007 You've read quite a few of my words about Seiji Sano lately -- a young and modern Japanese woodblock traditionalist known so well in Japan and, until recently, so little here. In nine consecutive weeks, nine of you bought his fall beauty that swept the CWAJ 2006 Japanaese print fair last October. Now here is the third of a winter trilogy presentation (one copy sold the first day) by this remarkable young artist. Little more need be said. He takes to woodblocks the way the Japanese greats did more than a generation ago -- but with a modern twist. This is the largest of the three I am offering now, "Remaining Persimmons" at a bargain price for an oversize piece from an artist so promising and quick to sell. Persimmons measures 19.25 by 15 paper, 16.5 x 12 image. Edition 94/200. Year 2006. Signed and sealed. Condition: Pristine, the print came from the artist's inventory. P.S. -- the snowflakes are gouache, white droplets added after the print was made, giving it a slightly dimensional effect to the eye and touch, unusual and impressive in woodblocks.
