Description:
A BEAUTIFULLY HAND PAINTED JAPANESE WATERCOLOR FROM THE EARLY 20TH CENTURY, PAINTED AND SIGNED IN THE LOWER LEFT HAND CORNER BY H. SAITO. PAINTED IN FINE DETAIL IN THE WESTERN STYLE OF WATERCOLORS. THE SCENE IS OF A KIMONO-CLAD WOMAN STOPPING AT A LOCAL FRUIT AND VEGETABLE STAND TO BUY GROCERIES FOR THAT EVENINGS DINNER. THE RAIN HAS JUST STOPPED, SO IT IS STILL WET AND THE LIGHTS FROM THE LOCAL BUSINESS REFLECT IN THE LAYER OF WATER ON THE STREET. THE ARTIST HAS CAPTURED THE TRANQUIL BEAUTY OF PRE-WAR JAPAN. THE PAINTING MEASURES 10 3/16" WIDE BY 14 1/8" TALL. THE PAINTING IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, ALTHOUGH THE OFF WHITE EDGES SHOW SLIGHT DISCOLORATION.
