Description:

10/01/2005 Title Hot Wind Artist Hao Ping born 1952 Signature Signed and numbered by the artist in pencil. Dated 2004 Technique/Medium Woodcut Impression Printed in oil-based, thick inks on a pliable, Chinese paper of middle thickness. Edition Size 80 Numbered 6/80 Description "Hot Wind" This design is a bit enigmatic. A woman carries a bucket on a long pole over her shoulder. One or two animal faces are to be recognized to her right, luring out of a stable. On top of the bucket are some hard to define objects. Flowers? When one looks closer, you may see something that looks like a mask. We contacted the artist about this design and he told us that the girl shown on "Hot Wind" is from the Huayao Dai nationality. The women of this ethnic group decorate their waists with colourful bands. They live in a rather hot region, an area of plains in the mountains. Hao Ping wanted to express the feelings of "hot" and "colorful". Note Hao Ping is one of the 60 contemporary Chinese woodblock artists selected for the collection of the London based Muban Foundation.
