Tuesday, 12 April 2005 Artist Noel Nouet (1885-1969) (Active 1935-37, left Japan 1962) Title "Asakusa Temple" ("Asakusa-dera") Date 1936 (mid-printing by Seki (1965-95), likely 1980's) Series "Scenes of Tokyo Views" ("Tokyo fukkei zen nijuyon mai") (Learn more: ("The Woodblock Prints of Noel Nouet"). Publisher Doi Eiichi Carver/Printer Endoh/Seki Image Size 9 3/8 x 14 1/4 Impression Fine. Superbly executed "bokashi" shading; nicely visible "woodgrain" in center upper sky; very finely carved details, crisp key-lines. Condition Excellent. Strong colors; clean backside. (No flaws noted.) Reference/Illus na Comments Attractive red temple print. Bottom margin reads "Nouet saku," or "Made by Nouet." It is believed that the extremely fine lines seen in the "key-blocks" of Noute's prints may have, in fact, been produced using zinc plates. (Learn more.) Item # JS-1005
