Title Dressing Yao Girls (award winning print) Artist Lu Min born 1962 Biography Resume Signature Signed and numbered by artist in pencil Dated 1996 Technique/Medium Reduction woodblock print Impression Printed on a pliable Chinese paper of middle thickness Colors Printed with thick oil-based ink, which gives the print the impression of an oil-painting. Condition Margins show minor soiling, two slightly thin areas (each ca. 2 cm = 0.8 inch) on left margin (ink stains removed with an eraser?) - barely visible when held against the light, but area looks soiled (see enlarged detail). Edition Size 50 Numbered 23/50 Description "Dressing Yao Girls". A very colorful print in harmonious shades of red, blue and yellowish colors. Lu Min applied an interesting effect: she used red color to the shadow parts of the bare trees. This produces an impression as if the whole scene was illuminated by a strange light. Also the tonality of the clouds with a fine graduation from red to blue contributes to make this print so lively although the drawing is simple. Note In 1999 this print "Dressing Yao Girls" won the second grade award at "Kunming Art Exhibition" for celebrating the 50th anniversary of the PRC (People's Republic of China). Width 27.2 inches = 69.0 cm Height 25.0 inches = 63.5 cm Width of Image 24.0 inches = 61.0 cm Height of Image 22.0 inches = 56.0 cm Literature Christer Von der Burg, "The Art of Contemporary Chinese Woodcuts", Muban Foundation, 2003, ISBN: 0954604814, - pages 160/161
