Description This print is from the famous series "Warm Winter", which was a major breakthrough for the artist in his career. After experimenting with Western printing techniques, Li Yanpeng turned to reduction woodblock prints, a method of making multi-color prints by cutting each color on the same block. The method was developed by artists from Yunan (South China). In the beginning Li kept the number of colors low and concentrated more on how to achieve realistic textures, which can be perfectly seen by the depiction of the stones. Read what the artist wrote about his early experience in this technique (link below). This print is from 1996 and can be considered as very rare. Note Li Yanpeng is one of the 60 artists selected for the collection of the London based Muban Foundation (muban = Chinese word for woodblock print).
