Description:
Wednesday, 28 December 2005 JAPANESE WOODBLOCK KAHO FISHING VINTAGE JAPANESE WOODBLOCK KAHO “Fish boat on moonlit sea” titled in pencil on the matting also with a signature in pencil that looks like Kaho. Japanese woodblock print (you can feel the texture of the impression when you run your finger over the paper) on a sheet of hand made paper (very fine columns) 10 ? X 7 ? inches. It is loosely attached at the upper corners to a backing sheet size 16 X 12 inches, which is torn and crumbling apart. The back of the mat has a printed label that reads “IMPORTED JAPANESE PRINT MADE BY HAND FROM CHERRYWOOD BLOCKS ON MULBERRY PAPER PUBLISHED BY SHIMA ART COMPANY, INC. NEW YORK ? TOKYO” There is also a red seal or signature in the lower left corner on the front of the print. Please note that there is a tiny tear in the bottom of the print just to the right of the seal, otherwise the print is in very good condition. I could only scan the bottom portion of the back of the print, otherwise I would have to remove it from the mat and I prefer to leave that to the buyer. The other tears and missing pieces are in the surrounding matting, but the part with the title and signature is intact on the matting.
