Thursday, 19 February 2009 KIYOCHIKA KOBAYASHI Taro-inari Shrine at Asakusa -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: c. 1930s; published by the Shima Art Company with publisher's seal at the lower left corner below Kiyochika's signature Size: chuban, approx. 7.5" x 10" Condition: VG, uncirculated print, never framed; "Made in Japan" is stamped in the bottom margin on verso Impression: FINE, tight registration and solid keylines Color: FINE, deep saturated color and bleed through to verso -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The full moon rises to light the countryside near the torii gated entrance to the Taro-inari shrine at Asakusa. A line of wood planks, presumably placed to allow pilgrims to traverse the worn and muddy path, stretches to the gate.
