Tuesday, 23 October 2007 A very rare, very limited original authentic 1935 Kawase Hasui woodblock print! This print is one of six prints produced by Hasui called "Collection of Views of the Moto-Hakone Minami Mountain Villa". This 1935 series of prints were commissioned by the Iwasaki family and published by Watanabe. No series or print title appeared on these prints! These prints were sold to foreign clients as: "Glorious Views of The Garden of Hotel De Yama, on The Lake Hakon Run By International Tourist Corp. Tokyo". Each print was mounted in a cardboard folder with an english title which differed from Hasui's original Japanese title. The prints were only produced prior to WW2. Please see "Kawase Hasui, The Complete Woodblock Prints", Book 2, pg. 478, #368. This print does not have a Watanabe seal, but is watermarked in the upper left print border, (please see image). Print measures approx: 10 3/4" x 15 7/8" with folio measuring approx: 16 1/2" x 11 3/4" overall. Print colors are outstanding! Slight discoloration present in margins and reverse. Two slight creases present to right margin.
