Description:

Kan'ei-ji in Ueno , by Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849) Ueno, along with Asakusa, was one of the famous sites in Edo. Asakusa had its Asakusa Kannon (Senso-ji temple), and Ueno had T?eizan Kan'ei-ji. This print uses the straight lines of the buildings to exaggerate the sense of perspective and depth. Prints using this method are known as uki-e. This style provides an imposing rendition of the central building of Kan'ei-ji. The artist's signature is here shown in the middle of the right margin and it reads "Katsu Shunro", one of the names used by the young Katsushika Hokusai.
