Thursday, 30 November 2006 SHIRO KASAMATSU -First Edition - Japanese Original Woodblock Print - Awashima Island, Izu, 1953 "Awashima Island, Izu" ("IZU AWASHIMA") by Shiro Kasamatsu(1898-1991). Original First Edition woodblock print dated Showa 31 (1953). The printing of the date in the lower left margin. Also in the left margin are Unsodo publisher's seal, Shinmi printer's seal, Nagashima carver's seal, and Unsodo watermark. Kasamatsu red seal in left right of image. Good ink bleed through. Excellent color, very good overall condition, minor foxing /stains on top left corner. You can see very tiny blown spot(foxing) next right moon . Full margins, a rarely seen image, small smug right as seen which is very typical of these prints this era. On verso near edge is dark fiber in paper; paper is not torn and this does not show from the front side. Very difficult to find. SIZE : 10 and 1/2 x 16 inches.
