Description:

Monday, 4 September 2006 ISHIWATA KOITSU JAPANESE WOODBLOCK PRINT OF LOVELY BIJIN IN SNOW PRINT MEASURES 5 3/4" X 3 3/4" PRINTS BY ISHIWATA KOITSU ARE SELDOM SEEN AND THIS POSTCARD SIZE PRINT IS MOST RARE. THE WOODBLOCK IS ATTACHED TO A GREETING CARD AT THE UPPER CORNERS AND THERE IS SOME TONING/STAINING ON THE FAR RIGHT SIDE OF THE PRINT AS SHOWN IN THE PICTURES. THE CARVING AND PRINTING ARE QUITE FINE AND THE COLORS ARE VIVID. Takemura published? I do believe that this print must be by Ishiwata Koitsu (石渡江逸) under Takemura publisher. Again this publisher seal was hard for a foreiner or even for a young Japanese to read. You can read katakana "TA KE" in the middle part of the seal, can't you? This seal was devided by three parts and its left side contained a left part (屯)of a kanji "MURA (邨)" and its right side represented its right part (?)of the same kanji. Kanji "(邨)" has the same pronuciation and meaning as your familiar kanji of ”村”. You must also recognise the left part was caurved in a very simplified way (negative & positive) and the right part was clearly curved in negative style. Can you fugure out those combinations ( 屯 + タケ+?)of a divided kanji caharacter and two katakana ?
