Thursday, 21 July 2005 This is a pretty large woodblock for this or any other artist. It is by well known and widely collected Japanese artist Shuzo Ikeda. He is known for most of his subjects having large exaggerated eyes, especially children. This is an exceptionally nice image of his. It is signed lower right it is a limited edition series, 74/100. Looks like the date was 1968 for this woodblock. Signed in japanese in pencil and name in english in the wookcut. The colors are very strong and bright in this image, I had to take my pictures with this laying flat do to reflections from the glass, so the colors may appear less vibrant than they will appear in person. The background is blue and black, the lady is dark grey with gold mixed in. The floral corsage by her ear is pink, purple and violet colors. The framed size is 23" 1/2 x 18" 1/2. The visible image 16" 3/4 by 12" The frame is a light brown color and it appears to have been framed and matted at least 20 years ago.
