Sunday, 13 November 2005 Shanks' Mare Tokaido: #3 Kanagawa Artist: Tamenobu Format: Oban yoko-e: 10" x 14.25" approx Subject: From series Tokaido Hizakurige. The story of a comical journey on foot along the Tokaido highway, made by two roguish men, Yajirobe who was running away from his poor merchant background (seen in the images in a blue over kimono: and Kitahachi, a run-away actor, seen in a checkered kimono. In this plate our two heroes are taking a break from walking and are travelling in a pack-horse's saddle-bags. Date: 1910's Condition: Full size. Japanese album backing paper. Minor marks and flaws. Generally very good state. Colour: Fine Impression: Fine with gauffrage
