Description:
Thanks for visiting my auction. You are viewing a rare set of Japanese woodblock prints by Takeji Asano (1900-1999). Asano was a native of Kyoto and graduated from the Kaiga Semmon Gakko in 1923. Later, he studied under Tsuchida Bakusen and shifted his interest to woodblock printing. Among his famous works is this set entitled, “Eight Views of Kinki” ? the area now known as Kyoto, Osaka and Kobe, all produced in 1954. Sometime ago, I solicited the help of a translator to give you here the English translation of the Japanese writing in the margins. Important to all of these woodblocks is the statement, “Takeji gokoku ? suru” printed on the block, roughly translated to, “Takeji paint, cut, print” written on all eight prints, very similar to a "Jizuri" seal on Hiroshi Yoshida works. 1) Shinyo Temple, Snow; January 1954, 2) Wakano-ura Moonlight; February 1954, 3) Arashiyama Spring; April 1954, 4) Himeji Castle; July 1954, 5) Yasaka Pagoda; August 1954, 6) Ukimido Temple Evening Moon; September 1954, 7) Kofukuji Autumn; October 1954, 8) Sumiyoshi Shrine Snow; November 1954
