Tuesday, 30 August 2011 Here is a stunning 1930's art deco period impressionist japanese watercolor landscape painting. The piece is signed in the lower left corner: Aoiti. I have no other information on the artist but there is a talent at work. Please excuse any reflections in the pics. The piece is in very good original condition with a couple of minor indications from age which do not detract at all and having been recently rematted in its period frame. It measures 19 by 25 inches overall with the image measuring 12 1/4 by 18 3/4 inches. The 1 inch period black and gold painted molding in recently restored condition shows well and compliments the work perfectly. A beautifully executed impressionist landscape showing a lone female figure crossing a bridge in the rain to go to a candy shop. Excellent depth and use of color here gives the viewer a sense of being in the scene. You can feel the atmosphere and are drawn into it. It shows wonderfully on the wall and would compliment an asian decor as well as art deco-or any other! A worthy addition to your modern art collection not to be missed!
