Description:
While Nichiren was on his way to be exiled on the island of Sado, he stopped a terrible storm by casting a spell on the waves in the form of an invocation to the Buddha. This invocation reads: “Namu myöhö renge kyö ” (Hail to the jewel in the lotus). The Michener Collection contains all ten prints in the series, which has been considered by some critics as Kuniyoshi's masterpiece. (from Pathway exhibition 1/29/08-)
