Colour woodblock print, oban. The kabuki actors Ichikawa Danjuro VII as Lord Sugawara Michizane (‘Sugawara Michizane-ko’), seated at the entrance to a cave with a scroll laid out in front of him and holding a Buddhist 'tokko' in one hand, and Iwai Matsunosuke I as his son Kan Shusai; in a play relating to ‘Sugawara denju tenarai kagami’.
