Description:
"Nemurenai" (Can't Sleep). Tired, sleepless owls. Santoka Taneda's short poem, "Owl and I, we are not together but both of us can not sleep". Iwao Akiyama was, together with Akio ONDA, one of the best pupils of Shiko MUNAKATA. He mastered the dynamic black and white compositions typical to the "Munakata School". But his amiable owls and semi-abstract figures are distinctively his own.
