Description:

Two famous scenes from popular kabuki plays. Upper inset shows the encounter of two rivals (played by Nakamura Shikan, Sukedakaya Takasuke) at "Saya-ate" scene from "Kuruwa Nikki". The lower inset depicts the Japanese hero, Watonai (left: played by Ichikawa Danjuro) and the Chinese counterpart, Kanki (Ichikawa Sadanji).
