Thursday, 21 September 2006 This Fantastic Complete Commemorative Set- Tonight, we are very excited to offer a complete set of the stunning Yuyudo publisher's release of Goyo's wood block masterworks. With the permission of Goyo's heirs, the venerable Yuyudo publishing company was commissioned to release a strictly limited edition of 150 sets with 13 prints each of Goyo's masterwork woodblocks. The Yuyudo company set about producing an incredible reprint set of Goyo's designs with the exact detail and color. The prints were produced on the finest handmade paper available. The Goyo family insisted that the detail color and print quality were all first rate. Expert carvers were contracted to produce the highest quality wood blocks and printers meticulously reprinted Goyo's originals with the same attention to quality and detail and in keeping with Goyo's excellent original designs. The prints included the technically difficult embellishments of mica backgrounds, embossed detail, and beautiful shaded color. These reprint sets were an immediate hit on the market. Due to the limited edition release of 150 sets total, and the technical difficulty in quality of the prints, they immediately commanded high prices. Today, the great majority of these lovely sets have been broken up and the prints have been sold off individually. A complete set, in excellent condition, with all the original folders, and the original storage box is a very rare find. That is exactly what we are offering this evening. This set is in very fine condition, each print is stored in its original inner and outer folder, and the set comes with the original handmade clothbound box. This exceptional item is a great opportunity for the woodblock collector interested in Goyo prints. It represents a nice opportunity to invest in the wood block print market. These complete sets are sure to increase in value over the years. There are no more Goyo reprints being done today. The family only allowed two reprint sets (this set and one other limited to 100 sets). That's why collectors and dealers actively search out these beautiful sets in the market. This set includes- The 13 Goyo wood block prints pictured in our link. The inner folder in which each of the 13 prints is stored. The outer folder with a subject title in which the inner folder fits for storage. The handmade blue clothbound box, originally released with the set. Two descriptive booklets, in Japanese, from the Yuyudo publisher (as shown in link). NO! Tanseisha Condition- This set of prints is in excellent condition overall, with no issues to report. The prints are beautiful. They have not been framed. They have been stored only, so there is no fading or mat burn or framing marks. There are no tears, holes, or other issues. The prints are not backed. Each print is stored in the inner and outer folders, as described. The prints are not "tipped in" to these folders. So, they are simply loose within the folders and can be removed for study, collecting, or framing. Set is in very good condition overall. Many of these sets show signs of toning or water damage. This set has none of those issues. An excellent opportunity for the discerning collector.
